Four years ago this month, we turned the key and opened the door to the Knutsford Tea Room for the very first time. We were absolutely thrilled to be taking ownership of the café, and completely terrified all at the same time! In those four years, we’ve expanded the team, survived a global pandemic, launched a dog menu, won a string of awards and grown the most wonderful, loyal customer base. Thank you all so much for supporting us on our journey.
A NEW FACE AT THE TEA ROOM
So, what’s new for 2022 as we celebrate our 4th anniversary? Well, some of you will already know that we have a new manager - Patrick Smith. Patrick used to be the manager at Corks Out and is one of Harriet’s oldest friends. Here’s a few words from Patrick about joining our team.
“I can’t really put into words how nice it is for me to join this business. Harriet and I became friends when we were at High School and have basically been inseparable ever since. When Sue and Harriet talked to me about joining the Tea Room, there was literally no way I could say no! How many people can say they work with their best friend every day? I am so excited and privileged to be part of this business, watch this space for new bakes and new dates – events coming soon!”

Patrick is like family to us because he’s been involved in our lives for such a long time. When he’s not on duty at the Tea Room, Patrick (and Harriet) can sometimes be spotted treading the boards at the Knutsford Little Theatre. We’re sure that you’ll all having him around.

A lot of people have asked us what the secret is to success. Honestly, it's all about doing what you enjoy. We just love this place, and our customers. But we've tried to put together our best tips for any small businesses out there looking to grow.
3 TOP TIPS ON HOW TO GROW A SMALL BUSINESS
Be open to new ideas, but stick to your key values. For us, it’s all about customer service, and looking after customers. We really got to know you all even better during the pandemic. Not that any of us want to go back to all that any time soon, but those doorstep chats as we delivered afternoon teas really built a lot of bonds. We love knowing you all by name.
As soon as you can afford it, bring people in to do things that aren’t your core business. It pays dividends to get people doing your accounts, PR etc so you can focus on doing what you’re good at.
Keep at it. You’ll always come across challenges when you’re running a small business, but don’t let it get you down. Lean on your friends, your family and your team and keep going. You will get to your end goal, one day.
